SIX Safety Selected for District Ventures and IBM Innovation Space

SIX Safety Systems Inc. is pleased to announce their selection as one of seven emerging technology companies included in the inaugural cohort of the District Ventures and IBM Innovation Space, an incubator program created through a partnership between District Ventures, the Calgary-based business accelerator founded by Arlene Dickinson in 2015, and IBM.

The Innovation Space provides the tools, network, and collaborative workspace for cohort members to innovate and disrupt the market. A core group of SIX Safety’s team members are working in the space and taking advantage of the many benefits including workshops and mentoring designed to accelerate growth and take companies to the next level.  “A highlight of the program is working in the same space as some of the most brilliant tech minds in Calgary. You can feel the energy here and I think that’s extremely positive for everyone involved. There is so much innovation going on in Calgary’s tech landscape and we are excited to be on the forefront.” says Emily Overes, SIX Safety’s Director of Marketing and Communication.

SIX Safety’s Chief Technology Officer Jay Boehm says, “Participation in this program is truly accelerating the development of new features and capabilities of our LUCI™ technology. We're working with IBM experts to extend and enhance our real-time fatigue and distraction detection by incorporating Watson Analytics into our solution. Using IBM’s powerful BlueMix cloud platform reduces development and deployment complexity and costs, which gives our company a shorter, more effective path to further commercialization.”

“It’s an honour for SIX Safety to be selected for this opportunity,” says Richard Robillard, President & CEO. “The partnership with IBM is a real testament to the technology and solution SIX Safety has developed. The Innovation Space accelerates LUCI’s future development horizon, and this partnership opens additional global channels for SIX Safety’s worker fit-for-duty solutions.”

When the launch of the Innovation Space was announced earlier in 2017, District Ventures CEO Arlene Dickinson stated “Entrepreneurism isn’t reserved for startups. It should be embraced by companies large and small, by innovators in the smallest of garages to the most sophisticated of laboratories and boardrooms. This partnership is a perfect example of what happens when big business and entrepreneurs join forces to do something amazing.”

The first cohort runs through October, 2017 and then segues to SIX Safety’s continued participation in IBM’s Global Entrepreneur Program and further technology development through their status as an IBM certified partner.
